Vogue UK reports Gucci's creative director Frida Giannini is ready to give Gucci a scent for a woman.
"The other Gucci perfumes were made by different people - I really wanted to put myself in the fragrance," says Giannini of the simply-titled perfume Gucci, her first women's fragrance - indeed, the first fragrance she has ever created - for the house since she became its creative director last year. "What I want out of this fragrance is that it becomes a classic and that it has a long life. I want it to be like a Chanel No. 5 - OK, that's a grand dream, but it's better to think big," she adds. In partnership with Proctor and Gamble, Giannini has developed a stong, almost masculine scent - combining patchouli, honey, musk, orange blossom, spider lily and the impossibly exotic-sounding Tahitian Tiare flower - which will launch later this year. And the packaging of the perfume will be just as gorgeous as its essence. "I had the idea in my head from the beginning how I wanted it to look but then to produce it industrially - it's a lot different from producing a bag or a pair of shoes," Giannini admits to WWD. "I gave Procter a big challenge for the flacon but at the end it really turned out how I wanted." |
