The fashion world mourns a pioneer in the industry. Yves Saint Laurent passed away in his Paris home at the age of 71 of a brain tumor.
Through his career, Saint Laurent has dressed the likes of Catherine Deneuve, Paloma Picasso, Bianca Jagger and Lauren Bacall. He was discovered at the House of Dior and trusted with the label after Christian Dior's death. Upon being replaced at Dior after returning from his military duties in the 60s, he began his own House with business partner Pierre Berge. The life-long business partner and co-founder of the House of Yves Saint Laurent announced the funeral will take place on Thursday. Berge simply said of his friend's death, "I'm shattered," reported AFP. Berge also went on to say how Saint Laurent revolutionized women's wardrobe, "He was the first to put women in pants, the first to put them in tuxedos, the first to put them in masculine clothes, the first to employ black models. He was audacious, he revolutionized the trade." |
