Viktor & Rolf are powering up with Diesel, as Renzo Rosso - father of the Italian house - purchased a majority stake in the up-and-coming fashion force.

Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, the Dutch label's design duo, admitted to being impressed by Rosso, highlighting his handling of the concept-led label Maison Martin Margiela, which he expanded in 2002.

The powerhouse heads reportedly began discussions in September 2006, but took their time developing a deal to accommodate every party.

"It's a new chapter to start building on the brand and to focus on creativity," Rolf Snoeren told WWD.

"We needed to team up with a strong partner to realize our dreams. It's like a marriage: You have to be sure you have the right partner. What we like most [about Rosso] is his openness toward creativity and out-of-the-box thinking," he said.

Plans for the future include: a ready-to-wear business line; an eyewear and jewellery line; and Viktor & Rolf stores.
