British designer Vivienne Westwood is exploring another creative world - music - and plans to unleash her first album mid September.
Titled Catwalk Breakdown, the record connects runway fashion with eclectic beats. "My clothes always tell a story. It may refer to the past, but it's always projected into this heroic future. And I choose the music accordingly," the grande dame told Vogue magazine. The 67-year-old modern punk fashionista created the album from start to finish under the label Mercury Records. Westwood, playing the roles of creator, producer and director, chose to feature 16 of her favourite songs. "Sometimes the music can just be sexy. It can let you relax, look back at the clothes, put people into a fantastic mood. Then it might just have to swing back and lift you up to the final triumph of the fashion show," the designer said. An exclusive album launch party is scheduled for September 15 at Selfridges' Oxford Street store in London, England. The U.K. retailer plans to pay homage to Westwood by displaying some of her past and present designs. |
