The normal vs. thin model debacle has been circling the industry for years. Some are adamantly against hiring the standard regular size; others bare no hesitation declaring their support. Like for instance popular German magazine Brigitte that - beginning this year - banned the use of professional models in their shoots. The announcement was made last autumn, much to the chagrin of many designers.

The idea of using amateur models for shoots generated after readers voiced the predicaments they had with the publication. Brigitte Online fashion editor Susanne Gundlach stated, "Our readers have been complaining in recent years that they love the magazine, but they don't find themselves any more in the fashion pages." The magazine was also suffering a decline in sales.

Brigitte's two most recent issues, which cleared out on most newsstands, feature women of different ages with a range of occupations. All were recruited and scouted through various networking sites.

We can't help but wonder if others will follow suit or continue to disregard it entirely.
