Toronto-born New York-based photographer David Drebin

The next best thing to seeing new work by photographer David Drebin to actually see him work, which is exactly what we did.  This Toronto-born New York-based artist is full of personality and never short of ideas.  He sometimes yells and screams at his subjects - shooting them while they're off guard.  He improvises, but has a definite idea of what he wants in his head.  On this day, in a Toronto parking lot, the subject was Sutherland Model Cate, who was asked to fall off a ledge onto a mattress - model or stuntwoman?  You decide. She pulled it off without a scratch.  David gets the photo he wanted and Kate improves her model book.  The shots will appear in an online mag http://www.cheekmagazine.com/.

Speaking of books - Drebin has just released a new compilation of film-like images entitled Love and Other Stories.  He'll be launching the book during the Toronto International Film Festival at Ultra Supper Club on Tuesday September 11th.  Tickets are $75 and you walk out with a copy of Love and Other Stories and help raise money for Habitat for Humanity.
