Every Friday, we all go through the routine. We come home from work, rinse off the week's pressures, maybe have a quick bite to eat, check the emails, and then it begins. It starts with the outfit. It's never a matter of what will I wear tonight, but who am I? What is my identity, and how will people perceive me? Over the years, fashion has taken some serious bends and twists in what's hot, what's not, how much and how little. How far is too far? For a serious group of club kids it just doesn't matter anymore.
There is a very small group of kids in the Toronto area who fall under this title. They're often called Randomlanders, named after the party planning powerhouse ADD/Randomland that put a huge mark in the Toronto scene, mostly thanks to a regular night of mayhem every Friday at megaclub Circa. Circa plays house to a slew of local DJ's and promoters as well as imported talent from all over the globe. The club's intricate layout and fantastical design make it all the more appealing to a young group of kids, who want less to do with the disgusting mating ritual that has become of Friday night, and more with the borders of fashion, and how to break them. The beauty behind Circa is the idea of themes. From circus freaks, to Ghostbusters the themes bring a new level of competition, who can turn out the most outrageous and creative outfits? Watching a group of these kids on the dance floor is like watching a runway collection march down the street. Different variations on one expressive theme. Here's a look at some of the top looks from the grand opening of Circa's new installment, Circa Sideshow. All photos are courtesy of current "it" photographer Wingo Du. For more on Circa, click here!
