I have never been to an event like Fashion Cares (known this year as Fashion sCares). As the crew and I made our way into the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, I was told stories of years past and how crazy the party got. You know how sometimes people talk up something so much that you start to think they're just exaggerating? That was definitely not the case here.

We made our way into the ballroom, passing the red carpet and a dry ice-covered "pond" with spooky masked, caped figures skating over it. Dinner was just winding down in the main room as we entered the backstage hair and make-up area, where the models and dancers were getting primped for the runway show and musical performances.

Backstage was bananas! I've been backstage at plays and fashion shows before, but I have never seen anything like this. The theme of the evening was the films of Alfred Hitchcock, so I should have expected something theatrical.

One of the first things I saw was a model getting a giant black crow attached to her head. Another model was getting a mass of black sequins glued to her face. There were models styled to look like Hitchcock's blondes, like Tippi Hedren's character in The Birds. They scurried around the backstage area in their satin 1950s-style ball gowns and bright peach lipstick. Even Glen got into the action by getting his face painted by one of the make-up artists.

Of course, there were guys in the show as well. Among the girls in their feathers and sequins, a group of four male models were just chilling out in their underwear. Needless to say, I have a pretty rad job.
