FT is revving up for Toronto Fashion Week and I couldn't be more excited. I woke up this morning wondering what I should wear to this evening's media cocktail party and finally, after much thought, I frantically pulled out a classic black pencil skirt and crisp white blouse. I looked in the mirror. Unimpressed and afraid to be mistaken as a waitress so I threw on a pair of yellow Marc Jacobs shoes, topped it off with an animal print belt and jetted out of the house. As I ran after the bus, trying desperately to jump over mud puddles and chunks of ice on three inch heels, I realize that maybe this wasn't the most practical outfit. I hopped off the subway, ready for an exciting day at FT, and as I walked in the office I found my colleagues Christian and Christopher scurrying around the office doing a little spring cleaning. I looked down at my shoes (and my throbbing baby toe) and said a silent prayer. I had forgotten that this was the day for a full-on office clean-out (how glamorous!). After clearing out old Vogue, Vanity Fair and US magazines I hauled stuff over to our storage room, ran upstairs to replenish our tape library and even skipped my morning coffee!
When all was sparkling, I finally had a moment to crack open my laptop and check my email. First on the list was an email from MiVi entitled "Blo today?" *Gasp* I know that I work in fashion, but this was just too much! Just what kind of party was this going to be tonight? I wasn't quite sure I was comfortable with this. What exactly was Michelle proposing? Turns out that MiVi was just looking for my BloG and not propositioning me in any way. Nevertheless, the genesis of this blog derives from my lessons learned this morning. You never know what the day will bring on any given day-especially at FT. From Fashion Week parties, to blogging to spring cleaning, to dodging mud puddles and ice chunks WEAR THE RIGHT SHOES! (or your baby toe will never forgive you). |
