10:00 PM | Designer Marathon: Christian Lacroix Part 1 (14+) [CC] Far removed from it's hey day of the 50s and 60s, by the early eighties, the world of the haute couture was a dying business. However a young man from the south of France, planning a career as a museum curator would soon turn that world upside down. Lacroix spent several years at Hermes but by 1981 was designing haute couture for Jean Patou. It was fashion executive Jean Jacques Picart who had first spotted his talent. In 1987 Bernard Arnault made a controversial offer to the then 37 year old Lacroix to open his own haute couture house. Lacroix quickly developed an identifiable style: his silhouettes were influenced by the eighteenth century and he showed irreverence towards color, print and decoration. Somehow the king of color even survived the darkest days of 90s minimalism. In the next ten years Lacroix expanded into ready-to-wear, jeans, the popular bazaar line; and home wares. vol.4-06

12:00 AM | Designer Marathon: Christian Lacroix Part 2 (14+) [CC] Throughout the 80s and 90s Christian Lacroix had established a look based on a beautiful mix of cultures and eras. Already a part of the LVMH group, it was no surprise when he was tapped to take over at stable-mate Emilio Pucci. In 2005 the relationship between Christian Lacroix and LVMH broke down and the house was bought by the US-based Falic group. It ushered in a new era for the increasingly frustrated couturier. Relieved of his Pucci duties, Lacroix was free to focus not only on his own ready-to-wear and haute couture collections but on the side projects that he finds so energizing. These have included Air France uniforms; hotel and train interiors; museum exhibitions and theater costumes. However, it's always the fashion that comes first for Lacroix, who has created a romantic style and unique signature that few others of his generation have accomplished. In 2007 the house of Lacroix celebrated its 20th anniversary which gave monsieur Lacroix a chance to reflect on an impressive career. vol.4-07

5:00 AM | Designer Marathon: Vera Wang (PG) [CC] Vera Wang did what many thought was impossible; she brought style to what was formerly a fashion wasteland - the bridal industry. By stripping away gratuitous ribbons and bows and adding a modern touch, she's become a household name, and has built a business worth well over 300 million dollars. Educated at Chapin, Sarah Lawrence College, and the Sorbonne in Paris, at age 23 Vera was the youngest fashion editor ever at Vogue magazine; a stint that lasted 16 years. From there, she went on to become a design director for Ralph Lauren. Vera perfected her aesthetic sense with the fashion industry's best. Sensing a niche in the fashion business after a frustrating search for her own bridal gown, Vera entered the bridal business in 1990 with the financial backing of her father. In less than two decades she's been able to parlay her bridal success into books, fragrance, accessories, home, ready-to-wear, and now a moderately priced collection for mass retailer, Kohl's, garnering a 2005 CFDA and other awards along the way. vol.4-08
