Hosted by In Fashion's Glen Baxter, Women x Women is a fashion event that premiered March 19, 2009 during Toronto Fashion Week in that will showcase works by some of the top female fashion photographers in Canada.
This invitation‐only industry reception party was held at Fashion House Condo’s presentation center in the heart of Toronto’s fashion district at King and Spadina. The exhibition will be also open for public viewing from March 20th to 21st.
In attendance at the industry event were the top established and emerging Canadian fashion photographers. The event offered the fashion and advertising industry an opportunity to connect with the photographers, check out previously unpublished, fashion‐forward work and discover hot new talent.
The photographer’s exhibition submissions responded to the theme, “women by women,” offering a fresh perspective in a field and industry heavily dominated by the influence of the male gaze. While firmly anchored in the aesthetics of high fashion, the displayed work will capture the beauty, vulnerability, strength of the model through the photographer’s eyes, with artistic direction drawing on the photographers own memories, style and dreams.
With the media watching, a crowd of 300+ and an exciting mix of photographers, designers, models and industry tastemakers in attendance, this exhibition has the potential to become an annual staple of Fashion Week that Toronto will love.
Check out the exhibit at The Fashion House (560 King Street West) this weekend!
