A much-revered international hit, Mango expanded to Canada in 2005 and now has stores in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.
“(Our stores) have been greatly received, we have store openings planned for the future,” says Celestino Garcia, coordinator of the design team.
The Spanish-based retailer currently operates more than 1,000 stores around the world. This is the company’s first showcase at L’Oreal Fashion Week and according to Garcia, they’re very excited about showing their collection there.
While Garcia didn’t want to give too much away, he said Spring 2009 will bring new volumes and shapes, especially in the outer garments.
“There will also be an emphasis on all-in-one jumpsuits as this is going to be the item of the season,” says Garcia.
”We can expect a collection with a wonderful colour palette, it’s fresh and a little bit different, we have some great accessories that have a special wow factor, but you will have to go to the stores to see it.”
Garcia says the collection differs from previous ones in that the colour is completely new, with “highlights that are a little daring.”
The inspiration behind the collection came from a need to return to simplicity, says Garcia, “So we concentrated on shape (and) looked at architectural references.” This will be mixed with elements of nature and florals will continue to be strong.
Mango’s collection in Canada is the same as what is sold in other international markets, but Garcia says sometimes they adapt what they send depending on the weather of certain regions. For example, coats would be sent earlier to colder climates like Canada. “Plus Canada receives the more fashionable items of the collection as Canadian women love fashion,” he says.
