BEAUTY BOOK

Mood-suiting glam brings a new modernity to Fall 2008. "Sticking to one era or one makeup look is not what it's all about this season," says Eddie Maleterre, Artistic Director for L'Oréal Fashion Week. "Today you can take your inspiration from the 60's, 30's or 50's and match everything together to create your own unique look."
Celebrating his 12th season with L'Oréal Fashion Week, Maleterre creates more than 20 new makeup looks for Canadian designers' runway shows each season. Yet defining these new beauty directions and directing a 30-person team to bring them to life doesn't daunt Maleterre.
"To be creative is to observe and learn," says Maleterre, who takes his inspiration from fashion, fabrics, colours and art.
His new take on terrific fall makeup is simple yet sophisticated. Spotlighting the eyes and lips in neutral and plum shades, matte textures and a beautiful new bareness make polished fall glam a natural for fashionistas.
COLOUR CONFIDENTIAL
Sophisticated neutrals and jewel-toned plums put the spotlight on luxuriantly natural beauty for Fall 2008.
EYE CANDY
A beautifully bare eye pumps up fall's new power look. "When it's natural, it's really natural," says Maleterre, who achieves the look by shading the eyelid with one tone of plum or taupe. "You can add a little shimmer and just a touch of mascara," he says. "But nude is definitely the way to go."
A glam take on the season's new neutral eye is also strong. "This option intensifies the nude look by blending light mauves and darker plums on the eyelid and along the lower lash line," says Maleterre. Enhanced by black eyeliner and a generous coating of mascara, the classic cat-eye look of the 50's and 60's gets a fresh Fashion Week focus.
LIP SERVICE
The neutral lip rules the fall runway. "Lips are matte and coloured with a beautiful natural gloss," says Maleterre. Lipliner is also back in matte, creamy shades that highlight curves and plump up the perfect pout.
FACE OFF
Bare, beautiful skin is the foundation to fall's sophisticated neutral look says Maleterre. "The complexion is pale, smooth, matte and flawless."
FABULOUS FALL HAIR
Healthy, shiny bobs in monochromatic shades of brunette and blonde are the new must-haves for best-tressed fashionistas.
THE MANE EVENT
"Hair this season is all about combining different eras to give women the freedom to express themselves," says Eric Del Monaco, the Official Hair Artist and Colourist for L'Oréal Paris. Fall's hottest cuts can also be easily transformed depending on a woman's mood.
CUT ABOVE
Inspired by the big screen sirens of the 1920's and 1940's, fall's shiny new bob is 2008's cut du jour.
"Women can wear the bob at the chin or shoulder, but the freedom is there to change the look," says Del Monaco. Worn dramatically straight or curled for a more romantic feel, "You can layer it for more texture and movement or create a bouncy, airy feel with a curling iron and rollers," he says. "But the big idea is all about transformation. What you do with the cut completely depends on how you feel."
MONOCHROMATIC COLOUR
Subtle, tone-on-tone shades of brunette and blonde rule the runway this season. "Hair colour is rich, shiny, deep and monochromatic," says Del Monaco. "You'll see just the tiniest hint of brown peaking through for a more subtle highlight effect."
