FT and Web FAQ

What is the FT Theme Song?

It's called "Obsession" by Animotion and you're in luck! Visit muchmusic.com to buy the hot track that screams fashion - not literally. Also available as a ringtone.

Can I Buy Copies Of The Fashion Television Episodes?

Unfortunately we don't sell copies of our show. However, watch past FT programming on our video player.  Go to watch.fashiontelevision.com.

How Can I Become A Model?

Before you spend any money on modeling schools or portfolios, shop around. Contact some of the reputable agencies in your area and see if you have what it takes. Most agencies have an open call at least once a week where you can go to discuss your look and any concerns you may have. Discuss your dream with your parents and only do what feels comfortable for you. A good web site to check out is: http://www.supermodelguide.com/. It was designed by a former model.

How Can I Get A Job In The Fashion Industry?

While we can't give you any specific career advice, here are some things to consider: first, it really depends on what exactly you'd like to do. Working for a magazine, television show, public relations firm or as a stylist, wardrobe consultant, or photographer each require different skills that you should be aware of. It would be helpful if you talked to a school/career counselor. They can help you decide what you'd like to focus on and tell you about programs and schools in your area. Also, many companies offer internships or volunteer positions that would give you some hands on experience.

Does Fashion Television Offer Internships?

We do have an internship program that's open to current broadcast students (college or university). If you qualify and would like to apply for the position, you can email your resume to Claudia Abate, Senior Production Coordinator at fashiontelevision@ctv.ca or regular mail  to 299 Queen St. W. Toronto, ON, M5V 2Z5. Unfortunately we don't take fashion design students as interns because our program offers television production knowledge rather than a fashion education.

How Can I Apply For A Position At FT?

Click on the "Careers" link at the bottom of the page.  All open positions, throughout CTVglobemedia are posted here.

Fashion Television Music Submissions

If you are a talented independent musician, or part of an up-and-coming band currently unsigned by a major label, and you would like to have your music heard around the world on our show, then please feel free to submit a CD to us for screening purposes.

Fashion television depends a great deal on the music we use to propel our show forward. At it's best, the music we use in our show not only sets the tone for our stories, it also embellishes the editorial content through fitting lyrics and mood.

Your music will not be used on our show without your legal consent and proper financial remuneration.

What type of music we are looking for...

Blues; big band; jazz; indie rock; sexy alternative; opera; gospel.

Good music with a point of view. All songs must have lyrics.

What type of music we are not looking for...

Electronica, house, jungle, hip-hop, or any variety thereof. We don't necessarily have anything against those types of music--we just don't use it in our show.

What's in it for you?

Money (not an earth shattering amount, but nothing to sniff at).

The joy of having your music heard by a potential audience of millions.

A DVD copy of the story or episode in which your song appears. The tape is for your personal viewing, and also acts as a promotional vehicle that you can use for non-broadcast, non-commercial purposes. Good as a demo tape for further commercial work!

Your music will be making super models around the globe smile, and frankly, isn't that what life's all about?

The Process is Quite Simple.

Mail in your cd to the following address:

"Music"
Fashion Television
299 Queen Street West
Toronto, Ontario
M5V 2Z5

Include the following information:
The name of your band.
The name of the songs composers.
All pertinent publishing information (who owns the publishing rights).
The title of the cd you have submitted (if it has one).
A contact name with a complete address/ phone number/email adress/fax number (if available).

We will listen to your cd. It may take time, but we will listen to it.

What happens next?

If one of your songs is found to be appropriate for our show, you will be contacted by our business affairs department. They will discuss contract and financial remuneration with you.

Please note that all submissions become property of FashionTelevision and will not be returned - so do not send us your only copy!

If your song is not selected, do not feel bad. It just means we did not find it appropriate for our show. There are a lot of great songs that just aren't right for our show.

Please do not send emails or attempt to call us regarding your music's status. As mentioned before, if your song is selected you will be notified.

If not, you will not hear from us. Sorry, but that's just the way it is.

Thank-you!
