Underwear as outerwear - Bras and panties get serious exposure on the world's top runways
From Alexander Wang to Stella McCartney, Dolce & Gabbana to John Galliano, Joe Fresh to Marc Jacobs, the latest and sexiest trend on the runway is underwear as outerwear.  It's not the first time we've seen this trend. In the early '90s, Vivienne Westwood, Thierry Mugler, and most famously, Jean Paul Gaultier's risqué designs were seen on Cindy Crawford and Madonna, among others. This time around, it's a little more sophisticated.  Jacobs and Joe had models wearing bras on top of their clothing. Gaultier showcased a pregnancy corset.  Wang has his girls in boys' briefs and Dolce & Gabbana's runway featured a parade of models sporting their skivvies. But perhaps no one got on board as overtly as Galliano for this season's Dior haute couture collection where the elegant underwear stole the show.

London-born Bartlett has been turning heads with her underwear-inspired collections and off-the-wall shows since she graduated from fashion school in 1982.  We first caught up with the designer at her New York show in 2003 where skateboarders circled models clad in her minimal designs.

It wasn't just the clothes that were inspired by Ono.  The presentation itself was based on a short art film she made 45 years ago.

Giorgio Armani looked to the past for his Fall collection featuring a flashback to the '80s but after being diagnosed with hepatitis earlier this year, the 75-year-old designer was prompted to reorganize the management of his company and lessen his workload. Now on the road to recovery, Armani's illness recently inspired him to create something new for his latest Spring line. The collection was youthful and colourful, not typical of what Armani is known for.
